How To Get Away With Murder (Netflix)

If you haven’t yet delved into the world of defence attorney Annalise Keating and her five chosen students, add it to your watch list immediately. Produced by Grey’s Anatomy Shonda Rhimes, this, like Grey’s, is another can’t-take-your-eyes-off-the-cast show that draws you right into the hearts and minds of the characters. Viola Davis as Keating pulls off some seriously great acting that should not be missed.

Alias Grace (Netflix)

Never mind the <Handmaid’s Tale>, Margaret Atwood’s <Alias Grace> is the new black. Or orange. A six-hour foray into the innards of the 18th century class system, Grace is serving a life sentence for the murder of her employer and his housekeeper. It’s up to her doctor and lawyer to figure out if she’s cunning and devious – a brutal murderess, or if Grace is merely a curious victim with an inconvenient case of amnesia. Acting since the age of 10, Sarah Gadon, as Grace Marks, is an absolute standout.

Twin Peaks (Stan)

The multi-layered storylines that made Twin Peaks a success in the ’90s hold the same weight for this horror-mystery follow-up. Set 25 years after the original events, FBI Special Agent Cooper (Kyle McLachlan) is still searching for missing girl Laura Palmer. Unable to trace his doppelganger he finds himself almost catatonic and trapped within the body of a Las Vegas insurance agent. True to style, Twin Peaks is not your average murder mystery and requires a keen mind to keep up with the polymorphous plot.

Hannibal (Stan)

Crime-thriller Hannibal may have been around for a while but it’s still getting top ratings on Stan. Ain’t that the beauty of streaming… Recruited to study a Minnesota serial killer, forensic psychiatrist Dr Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), finds himself inextricably drawn to the introverted criminal profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and tries manipulating the empathic agent into becoming a killer himself. Lecter’s fascination with Graham epitomises the intense yet fragile psychology of two magnificent minds.

Peaky Blinders (Netflix)

There is hell, and there is another place below hell. And that is where one of the most gripping crime series to hit our screens is set, otherwise known as Birmingham 1919. With a set to rival The Crown, and a cast of A-list players – including Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy, Peaky Blinders will grip you by the short and curlies and hurl you towards an unrivalled bingeworthy session that’ll make you feel equal parts good and bad about yourself. Good because, well, it’s just so good, and bad, because well, the content is really quite disturbing.
